Currently, the energy sector of Armenia has proceeded to relative stability from the state of severe crisis of early 1990s. The Government has adopted some laws aimed at development of domestic energy resources and implementation of measures to improve energy efficiency. Armenia has enough capacity for electricity production to meet the current domestic needs, however, following the forecasts, the demand for electricity will grow up to 3% - 4% per year. Electricity in Armenia is produced mainly by the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), hydroelectric power plants and thermal power plants. Solar energy provides less than 2% of current electricity production.
